The latest $100 million sequel, “A Good Day to Die Hard,” stars Bruce Willis and comes to theaters February 14th, 2013. Roderick Thorp is credited as a writer.
The first four Die Hard films have grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide. Fox studio chairman Jim Gianopulos recently called the Die Hard franchise “a cornerstone of the studio.”
“‘Die Hard’ very closely follows the book, so reading ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ gives fans the chance to enjoy the thrill of the ‘Die Hard’ story in more detail, experience the scenes that didn’t make it into the film, and discover the novel’s shocking ending,” said Graymalkin Media Owner and CEO David Zindel.
Roderick Thorp’s estate recently uncovered an eleven-page, handwritten document they believe to be Thorp’s first attempt at putting his ideas for the book down on paper. “This is an amazing find. It’s on these handwritten pages that ‘Die Hard’ was born,” Zindel said.
The eleven-page treatment is included as a bonus feature in the “Nothing Lasts Forever” ebook.
The outline discloses details about the detective’s backstory; provides us with Thorp’s eclectic collection of literary, film, and philosophical references that he thought would influence the style of the book; and reveals the never-before-told secret of why the hero keeps fighting despite the overwhelming odds against him.
“When Roderick Thorp wrote this treatment, he knew he was onto something really big. Reading it, you can share in his excitement as he raced to get the story written down. ‘Die Hard’ would go on to completely redefine the action/thriller genre,” Zindel said.
When “Nothing Lasts Forever” was adapted into “Die Hard,” Bruce Willis was catapulted from a television sitcom star into one of the greatest action heroes of all time. It’s hard to imagine anyone else as Detective John McClane, but a number of stars turned down the iconic role, including Frank Sinatra, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, Richard Gere, Harrison Ford, and Mel Gibson.
Other actors who starred alongside Bruce Willis in the franchise include Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Irons, and Alan Rickman.
The Los Angeles Times described “Nothing Lasts Forever” as, “A ferocious, bloody, raging book so single-mindedly brilliant in concept and execution it should be read at a single sitting.”
The New Yorker said, “[‘Nothing Lasts Forever‘] keeps us in a state of almost unequaled suspense and excitement!”
Roderick Thorp’s book launched one of the greatest action movie franchises in history. Now fans of the blockbuster series can experience the thrill of the Die Hard films by reading “Nothing Lasts Forever,” the bestseller that started it all.
